Snow Lily

I had to post this pic of my brother Brian and my neice Lily. As I was getting ready to leave Chicago on Sunday it started snowing again. Brian and Lily were kind enough to walk me out and Lily was loving the snow falling on her face. She kept saying "touch, touch..." It was awesome!

large format

Last week my brother Brian and his family were in town. Brian and I were goofing around in the studio one day and he took this series of pictures of me. They are looking through the back end of a large format 4x5 camera. Great job bro! The pic below that is one of my brother looking through the camera... did I really have to say that last part?

chain

I took this photo last week near the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, the girl in the green jacket is Stevi.

A lonesome road

I took this pic yesterday on my drive home from the farm. It was taken with a lensbaby f/2.0.

VOLVO - FOR LIFE

I took this photo while in "The Dells" on v-day.

An unrelated series...

These photos have nothing to do with one another, other than the fact I posted them on the same day.

9 below

I know it is nothing new, it always gets cold in the winter wherever you are, but I was really excited when my temperature gage in my car read "-9", so I took a picture.

Yesterday @ work

Yesterday at work I was working on attaching an SB-800 flash to a stand with an umbrella. Needless to say it worked and I had to take a picture of myself b/c no one else was around. It was also about 20 deg. yesterday and we were shooting in the studio, which is in the barn, which only gets heated a few days during the winter. It was very cold, hence the goose feathers and the crocheted hat, which by the way was made for someone else, but I haven't gotten around to mailing it because I have been too busy wearing it. To be continued...

Congrats to Ben and Ashley!

It has been quite some time since I posted anything. Needless to say life has taken hold and things have been very exciting this past month and a half. Here is a little collage of my good friends Ben and Ashley, who were married Jan 13th, 2007. These are some of the photos from that frigid yet amazing day in Amarillo. A little about Ben and Ashley... Ashley is an RN and saves lives on a daily basis, that is awesome. Ben is an accomplished photographer, film maker, and musician currently working in the creative department of Merrick Gourmet Pet Foods doing film and photo. Check out his website if you haven't already here; www.BENROLLINS.NET.

The Northern Lights

Tonight I took a drive just north of town and turned west into the county until I felt alone. On the drive out I dimmed all the lights in my car and stretched over the steering wheel and gazed out the windsheild hoping to catch a glimpse of the lights.

I wasn't really sure what I was looking for or even how long they would last. Once I got off the highway the sky started to open and I kept thinking I was seeing something. Driving through the hills of the west it felt like I was driving through a light fog as the lights started whipping above the roof of my car. I might have missed them tonight if I wasn't actually looking for them.

When I found my stopping point I looked up and if felt like the sky was moving from side to side like the wind was blowing the stars like a field of wild grass. They were like nothing I have seen before and I felt quite comfortable standing in the wind and cold in the middle of a field just starring at the sky. To the eye the colors weren't that brilliant, but I could see them change ever so slightly.

Unfortunately, I didn't bring a cable release for the pictures, so I was forced to hold the shutter open with my hand. If you look at the photos below you will see the camera shake, and the wind wasn't helping either. The only correction to these photos was curves in Photoshop to bring up the contrast of the colors. Hopefully I can get back out and be more prepared next time.

A STUDY OF A MAN IN FLIGHT

These are the still frames from previous post... a total of 30 "in flight" positions. This is a rare occurance in life and is a very valuble resource used by TC-FOM (The Coilition of the Flight of Man) in their argument that mankind evolved from the Terradactyl, an extinct flying dinosaur.

"tell them I said hello"

A few week ago I went to Phoenix (more photos to come) and this was the product of me arriving at the airport two hours before my flight left. Just a little collection of shots and a quote from my good friend Carlos... "Tell them I said hello." Something we all might have said at some point in our lives about some random situation. Honestly I have no idea where he got the quote. I just tried googleing it, to no avail.

a year gone by

I ran across this pic the other day and enjoyed its oddness, so here it is. This was taken over a year ago, last winter. It was probably about eleven at night, ice cold and I was bored out of my own whit, after all a man can only crochet so much. Out on one of my nightly walks, to keep the winter poundage from setting in too thick, I passed this cafe and sat an watched the bald man's silhouette along with some of his other companions for quite some time before pulling out my camera. I found his one dimensional actions rather amusing. I was only able to capture a few frames before my batteries died.

gentlemen

i can't think of anything witty to say for the title... after all it is what it is, the door to the gentlemen's restroom. this was taken in chicago at a little place called Maggiano's. I was at a wedding and taking a very serious break. It turns out I can't really take a break from something I like doing so much. I liked this shot b/c it is something i have seen many times and have never taken a picture of it. Obviously this was photoshopped; levels, cloned out my flash reflection, solid color overlay in black opacity @ 70%. That is it.

a telephone and a lamp

i really can't think of any better title... i thought i would post a pic since it has been a while since anything creative. ( not to say this is creative but my eye was pulled by the mood of the lighting) this was taken at the Eisner museum with my 50mm. i liked the feeling it has. I am not sure of the artist who did the sculpture, and I am quite certain there is more to it than this.

LITTLE RAWK

This is a little delayed, but on the drive back from Amarillo I made a stop in Little Rock to see Blaine, Lexia, and their dog Brodie.

Without going into any detail, this detour made driving instead of flying worthwhile. Seriously, how could it not when we went to places with names like "Damn Good Pizza" and "Flying Fish Grill".

Below are some pics of my hosts... (Blaine&Lexia). And no, that isn't a sheep I killed in the woods, that is Brodie, an 80 pound labradoodle, and to be honest i'm still not sure if he has eyes.
